Trandolapril as ACE inhibitors in hypertension

Trandolapril is an ACE inhibitor and is used for high blood pressure (hypertension) and heart failure as well as in pathological vascular changes in the kidneys (due to diabetes).

Trandolapril can be used both individually and also in combination with other agents for high blood pressure reduction (combination therapy) and is available on prescription.

It is often used with diuretics and other calcium channel inhibitors.

ACE stands for angiotensin-converting enzymes, i.e. enzymes that inhibit the conversion angiotensin.

Trandolapril works by influencing the renin produced in the kidney that is responsible for blood pressure regulation and water balance.

Trandolapril prevents the conversion of angiotensin I to angiotensin II.

Trandolapril is a so-called prodrug and is taken orally.
